When most people hear the name Samsung, they instantly think of electronics — smartphones, smart TVs, and cutting-edge gadgets. But what many don’t realize is that Samsung is also a major player in global construction engineering.
Through its engineering and construction division, Samsung C&T, the company played a central role as the main contractor for the Burj Khalifa — currently thetallest building in the world, standing at a staggering 828 metres in Dubai, UAE.
Burj Khalifa: A Landmark in Engineering and Professional Collaboration
Delivering a project of this magnitude wasn’t just about building tall — it was about solving some of the most complex engineering challenges ever faced in a harsh desert environment. Samsung C&T worked in a joint venture with Besix (Belgium) and Arabtec (UAE) to successfully bring the vision to life.
The design and structural engineering were led by world-renowned firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), with architect Adrian Smith and structural engineer Bill Baker at the helm. Together, they coordinated with geotechnical consultants, concrete technologists, and wind engineering experts to tackle unique site conditions and achieve structural integrity at unprecedented heights.
From record-breaking concrete pumping operations to an aerodynamically tapered design that reduces wind load, every solution on this project was driven by expert engineering and technical innovation.
Why It Matters in Modern Construction Projects
The story of the Burj Khalifa is more than just a case of breaking records — it’s a powerful example of what happens when qualified professionals in structural engineering and construction management take the lead.
In today’s building industry, success isn’t just measured by height or scale. It’s measured by technical soundness, safety, and long-term durability — all of which depend on the input of trained and experienced professionals. Complex construction projects require more than ambition; they demand precision, planning, and deep technical expertise at every stage.
Our Philosophy at Recon Engineering International
At Recon Engineering International, we hold the same belief: no structure worth building should be undertaken without the right professionals on board.
Whether we’re delivering a high-rise development, a commercial warehouse, a structural retrofit, or a bespoke residential project, we approach every task with:
Engineering depth
Code compliance and safety
Attention to materials and detailing
Long-term performance in mind
Our goal is simple: to deliver professional construction consultancy services that don’t just build structures — they build trust, safety, and value.
