World’s Tallest Hybrid Timber Tower The world’s tallest hybrid timber building is steadily taking shape above Sydney. Atlassian’s 39-storey headquarters is rising beside Central Station and is set to become the tallest commercial hybrid timber tower globally. Designed by SHoP Architects and BVN Architecture, the building features an advanced hybrid mass-timber structure supported by a highly efficient steel exoskeleton, placing it at the forefront of sustainable high-rise design.
Mass Timber, Sustainability and Workplace Innovation The tower reflects Atlassian’s core values of sustainability and progressive workplace culture. Its extensive use of carbon-sequestering mass timber significantly reduces embodied carbon. The building is organized into six interconnected four-storey “habitats,” each a freestanding timber structure with naturally ventilated, garden-like zones that promote wellbeing, collaboration, and flexibility.
A Civic Landmark at Central Station Beyond housing thousands of technology workers, the development preserves a historic train shed, retains a much-loved youth hostel, and introduces new public spaces, amenities, and retail, embedding sustainability within Sydney’s urban fabric
